Mrs. Vaughan's second grade has been learning about West Virginia and what a wonderful way to wrap up the unit then an exciting Coal Mine Exhibition field trip!
Last week these Rangers were able to tour underground to see some of our state's heritage!
Afterward, they were able to tour the coal camp, homestead, and complete hands-on activities inside the space station!
What a great day to be a Ranger!

Hands-on Learning in Action!

Second graders at Rainelle Elementary had a blast exploring contractions through a fun, interactive game! Students searched the room to find the partner who completed their word—turning reading practice into an exciting challenge. Learning really clicked as they worked together, held up their words, and made reading truly hands-on.

When learning is active and engaging, those skills stick!

Second graders on a "contraction hunt".
Our students have been exploring the important roles that working animals play in our world, and today’s lesson brought that learning to life in a powerful way. 🐾

Students in Ms. Riley's Pre K class experienced firsthand the level of trust required between guide dogs and the people they support. Working in pairs, one student guided their partner—without using any words—while their partner navigated the space with modified glasses that limited their vision.

This meaningful activity helped build empathy, communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for the incredible work of guide dogs and the bond they share with their humans. 💛

Their presence set the tone for a confident and focused day, reminding students that they are supported, capable, and ready to succeed. It’s moments like these that show the heart of our school community—working together to lift up every learner. 💛
